County with the most severe weather in every state

  • County with the most severe weather in every state

Humanity has consistently been awed by the destructive force of the natural world. Greek mythology contains dozens of gods and goddesses that were little more than weather events personified: Zeus’ rage manifested itself as thunder and lightning bolts while the harsh winter months were said to be caused by the goddess of spring returning to her husband in the Underworld.

While most people no longer explain scientific phenomena through oral tradition, persistent bad weather can leave many wondering if they’ve been cursed with bad luck. Stacker set out to find the places in America most impacted by severe weather. Using data from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, Stacker sorted a decade of storm events large and small from 2008 to 2017, weighting all of them equally, and created a list of the counties with the most severe weather in every state.

Do you think you have the worst weather around? Click through the find out if that’s really the case, and discover which two Midwestern counties have 100 or more severe weather events every year.
