43 Bachelor, Bachelorette, and Bachelor in Paradise Couples Ranked by Length of Relationship

ABC’s Bachelor franchise paints a rosy picture of fairytale love. Couples meet when one steps out of a limo clad in a sparkling ball gown or a three-piece suit. That adorable first meeting is followed up with extravagant dates complete with helicopter rides and celebrity appearances. By the time the show gets to the final rose, viewers aren’t surprised to see someone get down on one knee. Who wouldn’t be swept off their feet by such a whirlwind courtship?

But how long does happily ever after actually last? Once the cameras stop rolling, are these reality TV couples still together in the real world? Stacker scoured news articles, video clips, and contestant’s social media profiles to find out the approximate length of each couple’s relationship. Twice in history, the show’s lead did not pick any contestant: Brad Womack famously rejected both of the final two women in season 11 of The Bachelor and Jen Schefft picked contestant Jerry Ferris before rejecting his marriage proposal on season 3 of The Bachelorette. Stacker omitted both from this list. Read on to find out which of the 43 couples from The Bachelor, The Bachelorette and Bachelor in Paradise broke up after just a few weeks and which stayed together. The show’s matchmaking record might surprise you.

Galavis, a former semi-professional soccer player, was one of the most unpopular Bachelors in the show’s history. After a late night swim with runner-up Clare Crawley, he awkwardly told her he regretted his actions—making viewers believe something distinctly X-rated happened. The fact that he didn’t propose to Ferrell, a pediatric nurse practitioner, but instead awkwardly asked her to continue dating him after the show, didn’t win him any points with fans. The pair began fighting so much after the show aired that they even appeared on VH1’s Couples Therapy in an attempt to save their relationship. 31/ ABC

    14. Evan Bass and Carly Waddell

Show and season: Bachelor in Paradise, season 3

Estimated length of relationship: One year (and counting)

Though Bass knew he was interested in Waddell right away, she wasn’t as convinced. When they had to kiss for 90 seconds on a date, she literally gagged. Viewers who tuned into the first season of Bachelor in Paradise might be shocked to learn that Faddoul and Grodd’s relationship wasn’t as perfect as it looked. After Grodd proposed to Faddoul on the final episode of the first season of Bachelor in Paradise, the two tied the knot in an intimate beach wedding during the first episode of the second season. Once they returned to the real world, however, Grodd said she wasn’t the same woman he met on the show: She no longer wanted kids and asked if they could spend time apart. 37/ ABC

    8. Jade Roper and Tanner Tolbert

The experience Hartsock gained in her career as a bridal stylist probably came in handy when she planned her dream wedding to Siegfried in 2015, but the public will never know: Unlike most successful Bachelor and Bachelorette couples, the Siegfrieds did not televise their ceremony. Still, host and unofficial show spokesman Chris Harrison was quick to note that it wasn’t a sign of disrespect.

    40/ ABC

    5. Byron Velvick and Mary Delgado

Show and season: The Bachelor, season 6

Season 6 of the Bachelor actually started out with two suitors: Velvick and Jay Overbye. The women voted on their favorite early on and Velvick won, eventually going on to propose to Cuban-born Delgado in the season finale. Show and season: The Bachelor, season 13

Estimated length of relationship: Jason and Melissa: A few weeks; Jason and Molly: Seven years (and counting)

Here’s where things get juicy. In one of the most dramatic Bachelor moments of all time, Mesnick proposed to Rycroft in the season finale only to call off the engagement and ask runner-up Malaney for a second chance during the After the Final Rose show. (Mesnick now says that the entire spectacle was planned and manufactured by the producers, but that’s another story). It all worked out, though: The pair married on a televised ABC special the next year and they’re still together to this day. Meanwhile, Rycroft and Mesnick haven’t spoken since their cringeworthy, nationally televised breakup, but she’s also happily married with children.
