The movies leaving Netflix this month

Hopefully, you survived April Fool's Day without too many jump scares or prank news reports making your heart skip a beat. If you could now use a genuine laugh—without the added foolery—streaming king Netflix is there for you with comedies galore. Unfortunately, as is the case every month, some films' days are numbered, with April being the last month they'll be available on the service.

There are a handful of reasons a movie leaves Netflix; the film's popularity may not justify the cost for Netflix to license it, or the rights may no longer be available. In April, 34 movies will be leaving Netflix, the most in any month of 2024 so far. Stacker compiled a list of the films that are departing, with supplementary insights from IMDb. These movies range in genre, but funnily enough, comedies are the most affected.

The first comedies to get the ax in April are the 2016 action comedy "The Nice Guys" starring Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe, and the 2014 sequel "Horrible Bosses 2," which exit Netflix on April 8 and 9, respectively. Then, there's a slew of beloved comedies signing off on the last day of April, from '80s buddy comedy "Twins" (with Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito) to early '00s rom-coms like "13 Going on 30" and "27 Dresses," to a more recent option, 2008's highly quotable "Step Brothers" (starring Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly).

Apart from the movies meant to make you laugh, plenty of other fan favorites are leaving Netflix in April. Horror fans have until April 22 to watch the 2016 South Korean action-horror film "Train to Busan" and until April 30 to check out two movies in the "Purge" series. Some other franchises are signing off from the streaming giant on the final day of April: the original "Jurassic Park" trilogy and both "Mamma Mia!" musicals.
