Most popular movies on Netflix last week

The latest batch of the most-watched movies on Netflix includes some edge-of-your-seat action that puts women in the driver seat.

It's no surprise to see the brand-new sci-fi action-fantasy sequel "Rebel Moon—Part Two: The Scargiver" on the list. Released on Netflix on April 19, the space saga continues in a galaxy ruled by an empire known as the Motherworld. The film, from director Zack Snyder ("Watchmen," "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice," and "Justice League"), centers on protagonist Kora (Sofia Boutella) who is joined by a band of rebels to overthrow the empire's tyrannical leader. Unfortunately, the response to the second "Rebel Moon" movie hasn't been particularly strong—it has a mere 15% rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes.

Another women-led movie that initially flew further under the radar but is now climbing up the Netflix charts is the 2019 gripping action thriller "Anna." The Luc Besson film stars Sasha Luss as Anna Poliatova, a young woman who becomes a skilled assassin working for the Russian government. However, she soon finds herself entangled in a web of deceit and betrayal as she enters the dangerous world of espionage. The movie, which joined Netflix on April 16, boasts a dynamic supporting cast that includes Cillian Murphy, Helen Mirren, and Luke Evans.

On the opposite end of the genre spectrum is "Knocked Up," a 2007 comedy that also hit Netflix on April 16 and is garnering new fans almost two decades after its initial theatrical release. The story centers on Ben Stone (Seth Rogen), an aimless slacker who has a one-night stand with Alison Scott (Katherine Heigl), a newly minted television personality. When their casual hookup results in Alison getting pregnant, the two are forced to navigate their no-longer one-and-done relationship. Along the way, they grapple with the anxieties of impending parenthood, different lifestyles, and the pressures from their respective families and friends.
