Most popular movies on Max this week

The latest "Planet of the Apes" film, "Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes," arrives in theaters in just a couple of weeks, on May 8. To prepare for the franchise's latest installment, plenty of fans are revisiting past entries, two of which are currently trending on the streaming service Max.

One of these trending films is 2014's "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes," which takes place a decade after a flu wiped out most of humanity. Genetically enhanced chimpanzee Caesar (played by Andy Serkis) leads a peaceful colony of apes in the forests just outside of San Francisco, California. However, when a band of surviving humans arrives, Caesar is forced to grapple with his past ties to people and his determination to protect his newfound family. The cast of "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes" also includes Jason Clarke, Gary Oldman, and Keri Russell.

Meanwhile, 2017's "War of the Planet of the Apes" is also popular with Max subscribers. The movie takes place years after "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes" and finds Caesar at war with an army of humans led by the ruthless Colonel (Woody Harrelson). The ensuing conflict is destined to determine the future of both apes and humankind in this new world.
